This article proposes a method to design an active sonar system using multiple transceivers for scanning underwater objects. This method converts the multiple independently received signals in the spatial domain to the multiple received signals in the frequency domain. Thus, the computational complexity of the system is significantly reduced. Therefore, it is possible to implement an active sonar system on the basis of embedded systems. The proposed method has been successfully applied to a real sonar testbed, and has been tested in real conditions, such as in Halong and Nha Trang bay. The implemented active sonar system offers scanned results, which are comparable to specialized sonar devices.
